Lunchbox project helps families in need this summer

Local charity Footprints in the Community will again be running its popular Lunchbox project to help families in need in the Redcar area, during the upcoming school summer holiday.

The Lunchbox Project will run at Newcomen Methodist Church on Mersey Road in Redcar during August. Primary-age children can come along with a parent or carer for an hour to take part in fun games, quizzes and crafting activities. They then receive a healthy packed-lunch to take home with them. The sessions will be from 10-11am, every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, from 2 August until 25 August 2022.  Places are free for eligible children, but must be booked in advance.

Footprints in the Community is dedicated to reducing isolation and poverty in the Redcar area. The charity is probably best known for running the nine Redcar Area Foodbank centres. However, Footprints also runs a number of other projects which families can be signposted to, including two Next Step Shops and First Steps, a project which provides pre-loved baby and children’s clothing and equipment.

Ruth Fox, CEO of the charity, said: “Footprints in the Community is dedicated to supporting people in the Redcar area and we are always looking for new ways to meet local needs.  The long school summer holidays can be a stressful time for parents and we hope that our Lunchbox project will help take away some of the stress and expense for families who may already be struggling during this difficult time.”

If you would like to find out more about whether you’re eligible to come along to the sessions, please contact lunchbox@footprintsinthecommunity.co.uk or telephone 01642 484842 during office hours.
