Redcar Shed are appealing for new members to come along and find out how they can benefit.  The Shed is a sociable woodworking shop based at Queen Street in Redcar, where members can work on their own projects in an informal and supportive environment.

The Shed is one of the projects of local charity Footprints in the Community.  Footprints in the Community started in 2011 and now run a number of innovative projects from their offices at 10 Queen Street in Redcar, each of which aims to reduce poverty and isolation and improve health and wellbeing in Redcar and the surrounding area.

The Shed is currently open from Monday to Thursday 9am-2pm. The first session is free and ongoing membership is £20 per year (which can be paid quarterly). Each session (of up to five hours) costs £3, including tea/coffee.

Anyone is welcome to join, men and women and all ages, whether they are beginners or more experienced crafters.  Shed members join for a number of reasons; to build social connections, gain a new purpose or learn new skills and gain confidence.

As one of The Shed members commented, “Sheds are about meeting like-minded people and having someone to share your worries with. They are about having fun, sharing skills and knowledge with like-minded people and gaining a renewed sense of purpose and belonging. They reduce isolation and feelings of loneliness, they allow people to deal with mental health challenges more easily and remain independent, they rebuild communities and in many cases, they save lives.”
