Lunch Box

Tackling holiday hunger through packed lunches, fun and games

We understand that the long summer school holidays can be an added financial pressure for families, especially if they are already struggling with food poverty. That’s why we run our Lunchbox project.

It aims to tackle ‘holiday hunger’ by providing packed lunches to primary-aged children, three days a week during the school summer holidays.  We work with Redcar Area Foodbank and local schools and other professionals to identify families who can benefit from the project.  It usually runs in Redcar and South Bank and children can enjoy an hour of fun and games when they come with their parent or carer, to pick up their packed lunch.

The Coronavirus pandemic meant that we had to run the project slightly differently in August 2020. We used our Footprints Community Cafe as a pick-up point for the lunchboxes, along with craft activity packs to enjoy at home.
